Wage and hour attorneys have different opinions on that topic, but they do agree on one thing: It would be difficult to get employees to move up to supervisor jobs if that would mean they'd make less money.
The situation happens more often than you'd think. There are many professions where it is common for subordinates to be paid more than managers, including sports and entertainment, technical fields such as coding and engineering, and industries with high-earning commissioned salespeople, noted Jason Habinsky, an attorney with Haynes Boone in New York City. Stockbrokers with wealthy clients might make more than their managers.
