Sencenbaugh in Texas Lawyer and Law360: Haynes Boone Creates 'Destination' In Austin

Haynes and Boone, LLP's move into a new office at San Jacinto Center in downtown Austin was covered in a Texas Lawyer article and a Law360 article, and Austin Office Managing Partner Adam Sencenbaugh was quoted in both.

"This view over the lake has really become the office centerpiece," Sencenbaugh said. "It's hard to take your eyes off."

The building is next to a hike and bike trail around Lady Bird Lake and the staff in the firm's Austin office have pledged to not only take advantage of the opportunity to get into nature while still in the center of downtown, but to help with its upkeep as well, Sencenbaugh said. In partnering with the Trail Conservancy, the firm will assist with garden building, tree planting and volunteer for community trail cleanup days, he said, adding that he and his colleagues will take "any excuse" to get on the trail.

"We want people to want to come into the office," Sencenbaugh said. "The purpose, the idea behind the redesign, was to really make it more of a destination."

The technology in the new office allows lawyers to plug in their computer, and then have access to the firm’s network, which makes it easy to travel among offices, he said. The sound and lighting in the office is improved from the old space, and is better suited for the use of technology.

“It’s really a big boost of morale,” he said. “The older space had much less glass, more closed–off areas, and that created a little bit more separation between lawyers and staff. In the new space, you feel more connected because of the glass. I’ve already seen people talking more, and more collaboration.”

The main conference room opens up into a reception space that also connects to a break room and kitchen with cafe-style seating and banquettes — equipped with a fancy coffee machine and cold brew on tap, he said.

“We anticipate using that for all kinds of in-office events, client events,” Sencenbaugh said, noting that clients have already requested a July 4 event, since the office has a 15th-floor view of the annual fireworks display.
