August 17, 2021

The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA), one of the legal profession’s premier diversity and inclusion organizations, has named Haynes Boone Partner Albert Tan a recipient of its 2021 MCCA Rainmaker Award. He is one of 15 lawyers chosen for the recognition. MCCA's announcement of the 2021 Rainmaker Award winners can be viewed here.

MCCA’s annual Rainmaker Award recognizes exceptional, diverse attorneys from across the United States whose business acumen, passion and dedication to innovative, consistent and proactive business development has set them apart as leaders in the legal profession, MCCA said. “Their success stories offer insight and value to attorneys at every career stage.” The 2021 Rainmakers have a proven record, over the course of several years, of compiling substantial books of business and have contributed significantly to their communities.

The co-chair of Haynes Boone’s Fund Finance Practice Group, Tan also serves as a member of the firm’s six-person Appointments Committee, which appoints and oversees all of the firm’s strategic leadership and management roles, its Board of Directors and Partner Compensation Committee, among other leadership roles.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to be recognized among some of the nation’s leading diverse attorneys,” he said. “This award speaks to Haynes Boone’s overall efforts to nurture and promote diverse attorneys so that we can become leaders in our profession and in our communities.”

Now in his 27th year of practice, Tan has helped paved the way for the growth of the fund finance markets, particularly in the US and Asia. He has represented investment and commercial banks as agents and arrangers in more than 550 subscription-secured credit facilities with total value of over $120 billion to real estate, infrastructure, debt, buyout, and energy private capital funds across Asia, Europe and North America. In recognition of Tan’s industry contributions, the National Law Journal in 2019 selected him to its inaugural list of Finance, Banking and Capital Markets Trailblazers.

Throughout his career, Tan has been instrumental in helping attorneys of color advance their careers and. has worked tirelessly to promote diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) throughout the legal profession and community at large. In recognition of his public service, Tan in 2015 received the Justice Wellington Chew Award from the Asian Pacific Interest Section of State Bar of Texas; the award celebrates lawyers who have made substantial and lasting contributions to Asian Pacific American attorneys, as well as the broader APA community.

Tan and the other 2021 MCCA Rainmakers will be honored virtually at MCCA’s annual Creating Pathways to Diversity Conference and Diversity Gala on Oct. 12-13.
