December 07, 2022

Haynes and Boone, LLP Litigation Associate Annie Nicholson was recently elected to the Orange County Women Lawyers Board. She is the only first-year attorney to be elected to the board this year.

Orange County Women Lawyers was founded in 1975 as the Women and Individual Rights section of the Orange County Bar Association. According to their website, “The original goal was to focus on the rights not only of women but also of all individual groups that may have experienced discrimination in our society or before the law. At the time, there were no women jurists sitting on the bench in Orange County.” The group has now grown to over 500 strong and is committed to both the educational and marketing needs of its members and to the needs of the community at large.

Annie’s practice focuses on a wide range of business and civil litigation matters. She previously worked as Summer Associate at a different national law firm where she assisted in representing major constructions companies, real estate developers, resorts, and other business interests. Annie gained further court room experience by externing for the United States Attorney’s Office in Montana, the Veterans Legal Institute, and the United States Air Force, Office of the Judge Advocate General.

While a student at UCI, Annie founded a fully school funded pro bono Spring Break Trip to Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Reservation in Poplar, Montana to assist the tribal community with legal needs. Annie is the recipient of the UCI Law Pro Bono Independent Spirit Award as she was the founder of numerous pro bono projects and has contributed hundreds of hours to pro bono work in immigration law, tribal law, employment law, and others. She is scheduled to return to Montana this Spring as the supervising attorney for UCI Law students to assist the tribal community with legal needs on the Crow Reservation.

As a regent’s scholar (awarded to the top 1.5% of UCLA undergraduates) at UCLA Annie majored in Political Science. During her time at UCLA, Annie worked as a legal extern for the Inner-City Law Center, a volunteer for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, and a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County.
