Haynes Boone Partner Barry Buchman Elected as Fellow in American College of Coverage Counsel

August 30, 2021
Further cementing his reputation as a leader in the Insurance Recovery bar, Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Barry Buchman has been elected as a Fellow in the American College of Coverage Counsel (the College), which is comprised of more than 350 preeminent coverage lawyers in the U.S. and Canada.

Barry was elected by a vote of the Board of Regents of the College, whose mission is to “facilitate and encourage the association of outstanding lawyers who are distinguished for their skill, experience and high standards of professional and ethical conduct in the practice or teaching of insurance coverage and extracontractual law, and who are dedicated to excellence in this area of practice.”

“Barry’s long track record of winning insurance recoveries for his clients in a broad range of complex coverage disputes, spanning many industries, has justifiably earned him a place in the prestigious American College of Coverage Counsel,” said Haynes Boone Partner Ernest Martin, chair of the firm’s Insurance Recovery Practice Group. “The College could not have elected a more worthy attorney to help further its vital mission.”

Based in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office, Barry has been recognized as a leading policyholder insurance lawyer by Benchmark Litigation, Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC (2019-2021), The Best Lawyers in America, Woodward/White, Inc. (2016-2021), Chambers USA, Chambers & Partners (2012-2021), and Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers, Thomson Reuters (2013-2021). He has handled disputes over general liability coverage for various toxic tort and environmental claims, including “medical monitoring” claims and claims by governmental entities related to public health; disputes over directors and officers (D&O) coverage for shareholder class actions and government investigations; disputes over errors and omissions (E&O) coverage for consumer class actions; disputes over coverage for sexual misconduct claims; and disputes over coverage for “first-party” losses such as business interruption and losses on leased and financed assets.

Barry recently co-authored a chapter on insurance coverage in the book “Mass Torts in the United States,” which was published in December 2020 by the American Bar Association (ABA).

Haynes Boone’s Insurance Recovery Practice Group has represented policyholders in some of the largest, most complex insurance coverage matters in the world, obtaining significant recoveries and precedent-setting decisions for clients.
