Haynes Boone Adds Private Wealth Partner John Collins III in Dallas

September 15, 2026

Haynes Boone has welcomed Partner John Collins III to the firm’s Dallas office. Collins advises high-net-worth individuals, families and family offices on sophisticated tax, estate planning, wealth transfer and business planning matters.

With more than 25 years of experience, Collins works with high-net-worth families on preserving and transferring wealth to future generations. His practice includes traditional estate planning, complex trust and wealth transfer strategies, family office structuring, entity management and the tax and estate planning considerations associated with family-owned businesses.

Collins is the third lateral partner addition by Haynes Boone this month, closely following Derek Lipscombe and Alex Pratt’s additions to the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Group, and he is the sixth attorney to join the firm’s Family Wealth and Estate Planning Practice Group within the last year.

“Haynes Boone has a strong connection to Texas and a team of attorneys who work with many of the same types of clients I do,” Collins said. “I was drawn to the firm because of the people and the opportunity to build my practice with a broader team of attorneys and professionals who can support the complex needs of my clients.”

Collins has extensive experience creating generation-skipping and family dynasty trusts designed to span multiple generations and advising prominent families through multi-phase estate planning. His work with family offices includes matters at various stages of formation and development. He also regularly collaborates with investment management and funds professionals on family office structures, family limited partnerships, profits interests and related matters.

“John brings a sophisticated private wealth practice that complements the work we are already doing for individuals, families and family offices,” said Haynes Boone Investment Management Global Chair Vicki Odette. “His deep experience and relationships in the Dallas market will be a tremendous addition to our team, and we are excited to welcome him to Haynes Boone.”

Before returning to private law practice, Collins spent 17 years with PwC in its tax and estate planning practices. He has co-authored numerous publications and regularly speaks at national training conferences and client seminars. He has also served as an adjunct university professor.

Haynes Boone has welcomed more than 15 lateral partners firmwide since the beginning of the year, strengthening the firm’s capabilities in capital markets, M&A, finance, energy, litigation and more. The additions underscore the firm’s ongoing focus on building depth in core practice areas across the United States and internationally.

Haynes Boone’s Family Wealth and Estate Planning Practice advises individuals, entrepreneurs, family businesses and families of substantial wealth on estate planning, wealth preservation and business succession. The team develops tailored strategies involving transfer taxes, charitable giving, asset protection, marital and retirement planning and international tax considerations, with a focus on clients’ long-term and multigenerational goals.
