July 17, 2022
Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Justin Riess was recently named to the board of advisors for his alma mater, Vanderbilt University Law School. Justin is a member of the firm’s Finance Practice Group and serves as Administrative Partner of the Charlotte, N.C., office.

The Vanderbilt Board of Advisors has several functions, including supporting the school's academic programs by lending input about curriculum enhancement and/or serving as adjunct faculty; offering advice and counsel as the school’s academic programs evolve; investing in the school financially; mentoring students and graduates; and recruiting students for careers in both the private and public sectors.

“Vanderbilt provided me with an excellent education and a world of opportunities. I am grateful that Vanderbilt continues to have an interest in me, and I look forward to helping the school achieve its mission to educate leaders who contribute to the advancement of justice,” said Justin, who received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Vanderbilt University and his JD from Vanderbilt University Law School.

Justin helped start Haynes Boone’s Charlotte office three years ago and is credited with building the local team. The firm now has one of the top-ranked banking and finance practices in North Carolina, according to Chambers USA’s 2022 rankings, which said the Finance Practice Group is held in “high regard throughout the market.”

The group’s lawyers are recognized for their successful work for more than 200 commercial lenders, including many of the world’s top banks, financial institutions and capital providers, as well as U.S. and foreign companies and their sponsors.

Chambers USA, Chambers and Partners, listed Justin in Band 3 in 2021-2022 and Band 4 2019-2020. This year, he was cited as a “particularly strong choice for financing matters in the aerospace, defense, maritime, and industrial sectors.” Chambers also noted his counsel for lenders and borrowers on secured and unsecured financing transactions. He was also included in The Best Lawyers in America, Woodward/White, Inc. for Banking and Finance Law in 2021-2022.

For the past four years, Justin has served as a board member of Girls on the Run of Charlotte, which inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using an experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running.
