October 27, 2021

The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) has named Haynes and Boone, LLP a 2021 Top Performer and Compass Award winner in recognition of its work on DEI initiatives within the firm and the legal profession.

LCLD is one of the nation’s leading organizations promoting diversity and consists of more than 350 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners. The Top Performer Award recognizes organizations in the top 20% for participation in LCLD programs and activities. The Compass Award recognizes those individuals and organizations that fulfill all of the following requirements in a single calendar year:

  • Member attendance at the 2020 LCLD Annual Membership Meeting and/or Member attendance at a 2021 Leadership Summit and/or submission of a Leader’s Pledge.
  • Participation in the LCLD Fellows and Pathfinder Programs.
  • Participation in an LCLD Pipeline Program (the 1L Scholars Program or the Success in Law School Mentoring Program).

“As part of our overall goal of being a market leader in DEI, Haynes Boone actively supports and participates in LCLD’s efforts to build a more open and diverse legal profession,” Managing Partner Taylor Wilson said. “Haynes Boone has made an organizational commitment and I have made a personal commitment to LCLD to continue serving as catalysts for progress in the industry. Our commitments can be viewed here.”

Many of Haynes Boone’s lawyers have also participated in LCLD’s Fellows and Pathfinder Programs, which help diverse lawyers develop legal and leadership skills as well as an expanded network in the legal profession.

“We are honored to receive this recognition, which speaks powerfully to the work we are doing on many levels to create a work environment that best serves our clients and allows lawyers with diverse backgrounds to flourish,” said Haynes Boone Chief DEI Officer Sharon E. Jones.

Excellence in diversity and inclusion has been a core value of Haynes Boone since its founding. The firm recently achieved Mansfield Rule 4.0 Plus certification, demonstrating that it has at least 30% diverse lawyer representation in a notable number of current leadership roles, and further that it has considered at least 30% women, underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities for leadership and governance roles, equity partner promotions, formal client pitch opportunities, and senior lateral positions. In 2021, Haynes Boone was one of only 29 U.S. law firms to receive the Women in Law Empowerment Forum (WILEF) Gold Standard Certification. It was the ninth year the firm received the award.
