Haynes Boone and David McCombs Selected Among IP Industry Leaders in 2023 Managing IP Awards

March 01, 2023

Managing IP has shortlisted Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner David McCombs as one of the nation’s top lawyers practicing before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

Managing IP also shortlisted Haynes Boone among the top law firms in the southern U.S. in both Patent Prosecution and Trademark Prosecution. Haynes Boone was one of only two firms to be named in both categories in Managing IP’s 2023 Americas Awards.

The awards cover more than 50 jurisdictions worldwide. Researchers obtain information from thousands of firms, IP practitioners and their clients through interviews, email and online surveys. Before compiling the shortlists, Managing IP said, researchers evaluate work data supplied by firms and, where applicable, publicly available information, such as court and IP office records. They focus on work done or concluded in the previous year, particularly looking for case studies that were of great significance to clients and/or IP law and practice.

The winners of the 18th annual Managing IP Awards will be announced at a ceremony in New York in April.

McCombs serves as primary counsel for many leading corporations in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings and is regularly identified as one of the most active attorneys appearing before the PTAB.

Haynes Boone’s Patent Prosecution and Counseling Practice Group has deep experience filing patents that span numerous technologies, including medical devices, semiconductors, nanotechnology, oilfield technology, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, wireless technology, software and telecommunications networking equipment, among others. The team has particular skill and insight into helping clients pursue patent rights while considering eventual post-issuance and litigation challenges, and with patent reviews and reexaminations, reissues and other contested post-grant proceedings before the USPTO, including IPR and covered business patent reviews.

The firm’s Trademark and Advertising Practice Group protects and enforces its clients’ marks, which include some of the world’s most famous brands. The group is particularly distinguished by its experience in high-impact matters, such as international clearance and enforcement of marks, global trademark prosecution and protection programs, oppositions and cancellations, advertising review, trademark and unfair competition litigation, and domain name disputes.
