Prominent Finance Lawyer Martin Pugsley Joins Haynes Boone in London

September 06, 2021

Martin Pugsley, an English solicitor with significant experience handling cross-border finance transactions across Europe, has joined Haynes and Boone, LLP as a London partner in its Capital Markets and Securities Practice Group.

Martin previously was the London-based Global Head of the Financial Services Sector at international firm DWF. Prior to DWF, Martin was a partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher in Milan, where he was head of banking (Italy). His international finance practice focuses on debt capital markets (listed bonds, EMTN programmes), corporate finance, and alternative investments, including SPACs.

“In capital markets transactions, global clients increasingly seek out firms that can couple international corporate finance and U.S. securities expertise, in order to access U.S. investors and to navigate the ever-increasing regulatory environment in the financial services sector,” Martin said. “Haynes Boone has an outstanding reputation in corporate finance and capital markets, both debt and equity, with a large national and international client base. I am therefore delighted to join the firm’s London office at a time of growth across the finance and corporate practices and to be part of a truly collaborative environment with my securities colleagues in the firm’s U.S. offices.”

Since opening a London office in 2016, Haynes Boone has more than doubled its partner headcount in the city. To accommodate the growth and its plans for further expansion in the market, Haynes Boone moved to larger London offices in 2019. Firmwide, Haynes Boone enjoyed solid revenue and strategic growth in 2020, including in its capital markets, M&A, investment management, financial transactions, bankruptcy and energy litigation practices.

“We are thrilled to add a lawyer of Martin’s caliber and experience in London and in other global markets. He greatly bolsters our corporate finance and securities capabilities at a time of robust growth and momentum for the firm —and for capital markets worldwide,” said Haynes Boone Partner Matthew Fry, co-chair of the firm’s Capital Markets and Securities Practice Group.

Haynes Boone’s Capital Markets and Securities lawyers serve as counsel to more than 30 public companies ranging in size from small cap companies to large cap multi-national business entities, spanning the energy, banking, technology, manufacturing, financial, biotech/life sciences, hospitality, and transportation industries. In addition to public companies, the group also represents investment banks as underwriters and placement agents in capital markets transactions.

Haynes and Boone, LLP is an international corporate law firm with offices in Texas, New York, California, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Washington, D.C., London, Mexico City, and Shanghai, providing a full spectrum of legal services in energy, technology, financial services and private equity. With 600 lawyers, Haynes Boone is ranked among the largest U.S.-based firms by The National Law Journal, The American Lawyer and The Lawyer. It was recognized for excellence in the BTI Consulting Group’s 2021 “A-Team” report, which identifies the law firms that in-house counsel commend for providing superior client service.
