Haynes Boone Represents New York Philharmonic in Appointment of World-Renowned Conductor Gustavo Dudamel

February 23, 2023

Haynes Boone LLP, Partner Raquel Alvarenga, chair of the Labor and Employment Practice Group, represented the New York Philharmonic in its engagement of conductor Gustavo Dudamel.

Dudamel, 42, will become the Orchestra’s next music and artistic director, beginning in the 2026–27 season, the New York Philharmonic announced on February 7th. Dudamel will begin a five-year term, becoming the 27th conductor to preside over the New York Philharmonic. He will build on a legacy that includes musical giants such as Gustav Mahler, Arturo Toscanini, and Leonard Bernstein. Dudamel will serve as music director designate in the 2025–26 season.

A native of Venezuela, Dudamel currently serves as music and artistic director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic — a position he has held since 2009 — as well as music director of the Opéra National de Paris and music director of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela.

Partner Scott Thompson advised the New York Philharmonic on aspects relating to compensation and benefits matters.
