Ryan Pitts Elected to Board of Houston Young Lawyers Association

April 01, 2020
Haynes and Boone, LLP Associate Ryan Pitts has been elected to the 12-person Board of Directors of the Houston Young Lawyers Association (HYLA).

Pitts, a member of Haynes and Boone’s Appellate Practice Group, represents clients in complex litigation matters. He began his legal career with clerkships at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

While in school at Duke University School of Law, he earned both a juris doctor and a Master of Laws in International and Comparative law while also serving as an editor of the Duke Law Journal. He graduated cum laude from Duke and summa cum laude from the University of Kentucky.

Pitts is a member of the Federal Bar Association, Houston Bar Association, and Texas Supreme Court Historical Society. He participated in the HYLA’s Leadership Academy in 2018–2019, and that prompted him to want to serve on the board.
“I wanted to serve on the board because of the opportunities that HYLA has provided me to become involved and to meet lawyers, even as a newcomer to Houston,” Pitts said. “HYLA in particular, and the Houston legal community generally, does an exceptional job of welcoming new Houstonians, getting them involved, and making them feel like Houston is home. I want to do my part in keeping that tradition.”

Founded in 1937, HYLA is a young professionals' organization and specialty bar association comprising attorneys who are 36 years old and under during their first five years of practice and law students. It has grown to nearly 1,400 members, including judges and distinguished attorneys. The group’s mission is “Learn. Lead. Network. Serve.” It offers social networking events, CLEs, and leadership and volunteer opportunities.
