Mark Trachtenberg Named American Academy of Appellate Lawyers Fellow

August 28, 2023

Haynes Boone Partner Mark Trachtenberg was invited to become a fellow with the prestigious American Academy of Appellate Lawyers following a recent meeting of the Academy’s board of directors.

Founded in 1990, the academy recognizes outstanding appellate lawyers across the United States and promotes the improvement of appellate advocacy and the administration of the appellate courts. Membership is limited to 500 lawyers at any given time. Mark joins Haynes Boone lawyers Nina Cortell, Lynne Liberato and Mike Hatchell as Academy fellows.

New fellows are invited annually, only after nomination by at least two current fellows. Nominees are then evaluated via a thorough vetting process undertaken by judges, co-counsel, opposing counsel, fellows and the academy’s board of directors.

Mark will be formally inducted as a fellow at the Academy Fall Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee this October.

In his legal work, Mark represents major companies in high-stakes appeals. His accomplishments include obtaining reversal of a $22 million tortious interference and trade-secret misappropriation judgment, successfully defending an appeal of a $3.6 billion bankruptcy plan of reorganization, and prevailing on a special appearance that shielded a Singaporean client from a potential $500 million judgment. Mark was also named 2023 Lawyer of the Year in Houston appellate practice by Best Lawyers in America.

Haynes Boone’s Appellate Group has a sterling reputation for precedent-setting victories in bet-the-company appeals, earning the respect of judges across the country. The group earned a Band 1 ranking in Chambers USA 2003, which described the cohort as “a destination appellate practice.”
