People / Santiago Herrera

Biography

Santiago Herrera has worked at leading financial institutions and law firms in Argentina, North Carolina, New York, and London. His practice is focused on fund finance, prime brokerage, margin lending, and derivatives, and his clients include a wide variety of hedge funds, private equity funds, sovereigns, and financial institutions.

Santiago worked at Haynes Boone previously, in the New York office, where he focused on sub-line/capital commitment and hybrid/NAV facilities. After a few years as in-house counsel, he decided to return to Haynes Boone in London to help support its continuous growth.

In his most recent role, Santiago worked at Goldman Sachs in New York and London covering virtually every aspect of Prime Services, including the negotiation of trading agreements (e.g., PBA, ISDA, MSLA, Master Netting, Lock-up), credit support documents, and ancillary documents related to onboarding/offboarding. During this time, his analytical depth and enthusiastic approach put him at the center of complex financial structuring matters, high-stake activist campaigns, and innovative collateral arrangements. Santiago was trusted with handling nuanced scenarios resulting from margin calls and defaults across product lines and jurisdictions. His warmth and integrity allowed him to build close relationships with key stakeholders across teams.

As a law student, he was assistant coach for the undergraduate rugby men’s team at Wake Forest and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Santiago feels passionate about mentoring law students and supporting them through their early years. He is a philosophy buff and enjoys writing short stories and essays.
