Christopher Pennington
Biography
Christopher Pennington is counsel in the Real Estate Practice Group at Haynes Boone’s New York office. He advises clients on complex commercial real estate transactions, with experience across acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, financings, ground leases, development projects, sale-leaseback and credit-tenant transactions, commercial leasing, and related real property matters.
Christopher works with institutional investors, private equity real estate funds, sponsors, developers, landlords, tenants, lenders, borrowers, operating companies, REITs, and high-net-worth investors. His experience includes transactions involving office, hospitality, life sciences, multifamily, mixed-use, industrial, warehouse, arena, theater, and other real estate assets in the United States and select international markets.
Drawing on nearly three decades in private practice, Christopher helps clients structure, negotiate, and close sophisticated real estate transactions from term sheet through closing. He brings a practical, deal-focused perspective to highly negotiated matters involving commercial real estate, private equity real estate, and structured real estate finance.

- Assemblage and acquisition from multiple sellers of properties comprising a 44-acre shopping mall complex in northern California, on behalf of a market-leading REIT
- Acquisition and financing of an air cargo hub and distribution center net leased to a leading online retailer in a joint venture transaction for a leading net lease investment fund
- Acquisition, development, construction, multi-tier joint venturing and financing of a 42-story luxury mixed-use retail and residential tower located in the heart of Manhattan on behalf of a private equity fund
- Acquisition, joint venture and financing of a $379 million portfolio of multi-family developments for a prominent real estate investment fund
- 400,000+ square foot anchor lease in connection with the redevelopment of a high-profile Manhattan office building on behalf of a publicly traded REIT
- $395 million sale-leaseback of a portfolio of retail stores across 10+ states for a national home furnishings and housewares retailer
- $275 million sale of a Manhattan mixed-use residential and retail development midway through construction on behalf of a leading Manhattan developer and construction company
- Workout, acquisition and development of one of Puerto Rico's largest development properties, including a partially completed hotel and 640 acres of resort and residential development parcels, for a private equity real estate fund
- Sale-leaseback of a portfolio of 150+ properties throughout the U.S., as well as single asset sale-leaseback transactions, for a major leisure and recreation services company
- Sale of California corporate headquarters net leased to a global leader in clinical diagnostics and life-science laboratory instrumentation on behalf of multiple high-net-worth investors
- Sale-leaseback and multi-tier financing of a Mid-Atlantic and Midwest portfolio of warehouse and distribution centers net leased to a major supermarket and food-and-drug retailer on behalf of an institutional investor
