Biography

Kaylen Strench litigates high-stakes cases across the country at both the trial and appellate levels. She has represented clients in a diverse array of fields – including energy, technology, shipping, and financial services – in trials, arbitrations, and appeals. Strench has drafted briefing in a variety of federal and state courts and presented oral argument. She has also served as embedded appellate counsel on trial teams, helping prepare and argue the charge, draft dispositive and post-trial motions, and preserve error. In addition, Strench maintains an active pro bono practice.

Strench clerked for the Honorable Catharina Haynes of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Honorable Debra Lehrmann on the Supreme Court of Texas. She graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she served as Assistant Managing Editor of the Virginia Law Review and was a member of the Civil Rights Clinic. 

Before law school, Strench was an eighth-grade Language Arts teacher in southwest Houston with Teach for America. She double majored in Philosophy and Political Science at Rice University, where she graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa.

  • Successfully defended a jury verdict in favor of a construction business against sufficiency challenges to the liability and damages findings on appeal, which involved the failure to pay by a property owner who alleged defects in the work, while also vindicating the business’s right to prejudgment interest and to foreclose on the property through cross-appeal points. (Opinion)
  • In refinery construction dispute, assisted trial team with strategy, legal briefing, and preparing and arguing the jury charge in a trial that resulted in a favorable judgment of approximately $35 million.
