Nina Cortell Listed Among 2020's Top 250 Women in Litigation

August 25, 2020

Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Nina Cortell is included in Benchmark Litigation’s 2020 listing of the nation’s top female litigators. The directory, published by Euromoney Institutional Investor, PLC, ranks Cortell among the top 250 Women in Litigation in the U.S. South in the Appellate, Commercial and Securities practice areas, as well as a “Local Litigation Star.”

The 2020 Top 250 Women in Litigation guide involves months of investigation into litigators’ professional activities, as well as client feedback surveys and one-on-one interviews, Benchmark Litigation said. “These women have earned their place amongst the leading female litigators by participating in some of the most impactful litigation matters in recent history, as well as by earning the hard-won respect of their peers and clients.”

Cortell has successfully represented an array of clients in both trial and appellate courts in cases that have put her at the forefront of Texas litigation practice. Most recently, in two of those cases, the Texas Supreme Court and the Fifth Circuit upheld the constitutionality of reforms instituted by the Dallas Police and Fire Pension System, critical to preserving the system’s solvency. In the Texas Supreme Court's 2016-2017 term, she secured two wins for ExxonMobil in cases involving the Texas Anti-SLAPP statute and agency law. In the Fifth Circuit, she represented Trinity Industries in a landmark reversal of a $636 million False Claims Act judgment and Texas Capital Bank in defeating multi-million- dollar lender liability claims. Her recent trial court victories include dismissals in shareholder derivative suits for AT&T.
