Press Release

Senior Counsel John Eldridge to Join Rice University Alumni Board

April 11, 2019

Haynes and Boone, LLP Senior Counsel John Eldridge has been named to the Association of Rice Alumni (ARA) Board of Directors.

Eldridge has practiced environmental law for 40 years in Houston and Washington, D.C. His practice, including the 20-plus years as a partner at Haynes and Boone, has involved corporate transactions, regulatory analysis, litigation and appellate work.

Eldridge graduated from Rice in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology before graduating from the University of Texas School of Law. He has also been dedicated to pro bono legal service work; for many years he has co-chaired the Haynes and Boone Pro Bono/Public Service Committee.

Eldridge also has devoted a great deal of time to community service, including serving as president or an executive committee member of many boards such as the Awty International School, French American Chamber of Commerce, Da Camera of Houston, Rice School of Humanities, and Rice Center for Career Development.

“I am excited about the opportunity to serve Rice in a new way, especially facilitating connections across the lines – generational, geographic, and institutional,” Eldridge said. “Rice is a complex universe, and many Rice Alumni are interwoven into that world in many ways. Being part of the ARA Board will educate me further about Rice and introduce me to a new set of Rice colleagues.”

Eldridge often advises students to commit to staying in touch with the university and friends from Rice. “As the years go by, you will be rewarded with increasingly rich experiences and relationships. It is so worth the effort,” he said.

Eldridge is listed as among Best Lawyers in America (2019), Texas Super Lawyers (2018) and is ranked in Chambers USA (2018-2019).
