Haynes and Boone Represents Chevron in Opening Its First Gas Station in Mexico

September 15, 2017

Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Nicolas Borda led a team of lawyers representing Chevron in opening its first Chevron-branded service station in Mexico. The station is located in Hermosillo, Sonora.

Borda and Associates Evert Sanchez Alonso and Carlos Alva advised client Chevron Combustibles de México on contractual and regulatory matters in connection with the landmark transaction. Borda generally provides regulatory counsel to Chevron on downstream matters in Mexico.

The Chevron-branded station offers gasoline with the company’s proprietary additive Techron®, which helps maximize engine performance.

At an event commemorating the opening of the station, José Parra, president of Chevron Combustibles, highlighted the strategic importance of the Mexican market for Chevron and said he was pleased to offer Mexican consumers quality products and excellent customer service.

Chevron recently announced that it expects to open subsequent service stations in the states of Sinaloa and Baja California.

Mexico currently has about 12,000 gas stations, but that number is expected to double in the next five years thanks to the country’s historic energy reform, which establishes a new legal framework for Mexico’s energy industry.

Borda focuses his practice on all facets of oil and gas (upstream, midstream and downstream), power and renewable energy projects. He has been ranked by Chambers Latin America, Chambers & Partners, as Band 1 in Energy and Natural Resources in Mexico in 2012-2017.
