Haynes and Boone Transitions to New Managing Partner, Taylor H. Wilson

01/04/2020

Taylor H. Wilson has begun his term as managing partner of Haynes and Boone, LLP, becoming the fourth lawyer to lead the firm in its 50-year history.

A veteran partner who helped build Haynes and Boone’s Investment Management Practice Group, Wilson begins his tenure at a promising time for the firm despite the continuing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Haynes and Boone enjoyed healthy revenue growth in 2020, fueled by strong demand for its restructuring, finance, capital markets, M&A, and energy litigation services, among other practices. During the year, the international firm also hired more than 40 lateral attorneys, opened an office in San Francisco, and broadly expanded its services, including creating a Precision Medicine and Digital Health Practice.

“Our success last year was a testament to our strong culture, the resilience of our employees, and the significant investments we made in technology, pre-pandemic, which allowed our lawyers and staff to operate seamlessly in a remote work environment,” Wilson said. “Although the pandemic continues to exact a heavy toll, there are many reasons for optimism, starting with the COVID-19 vaccines and the proven resilience of the economy, in the U.S., and abroad.”

Wilson succeeds Tim Powers, who served as managing partner from 2015 through 2020. Powers and Wilson began collaborating on the transition last year. Per the firm partnership’s age restrictions, Powers will step down from management and return to his practice.

“I look forward to continuing initiatives by Tim and other firm leaders to pursue strategic growth and innovation so that we can continue to bring value to our clients,” Wilson said.

Wilson has spent his entire 30-year legal career at Haynes and Boone. In addition to building one of the firm’s signature practices, he has served in many leadership roles at Haynes and Boone, including on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee and as Chair of the Partner Compensation Committee. Wilson was instrumental in creating Haynes and Boone’s 2025 Plan, the firm’s central planning document, which lays out an ambitious vision for growth into new markets and practice areas.

A graduate of Amherst College and SMU Dedman School of Law, Wilson has been a member of the American Bar Association’s Venture Capital and Private Equity Committee for 20 years and has served the Texas Bar’s Business Law Section for even longer. In his practice, he has created and advised investment funds around the world, earning recognition in The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward/White Inc.) listing for the past 13 years.

Haynes and Boone is an international corporate law firm with offices in Texas, New York, California, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Washington, D.C., London, Mexico City and Shanghai, providing a full spectrum of legal services in energy, technology, financial services and private equity. With more than 575 lawyers, Haynes and Boone is ranked among the largest U.S.-based firms by The National Law Journal, The American Lawyer and The Lawyer. It also was recognized across the board for excellence in the BTI Consulting Group’s 2020 “A-Team” report, which identifies the law firms that in-house counsel commend for providing superior client service.
