Nina Cortell Named to Lawdragon 'Leading Lawyers' Hall of Fame

March 05, 2019

After four years of being included in Lawdragon Magazine’s “500 Leading Lawyers in America,” Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Nina Cortell has been inducted into the legal media company’s Hall of Fame. Cortell, an appellate litigator, is honored in the Litigators category of the Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame is a permanent designation that includes leaders of corporate law, the trial bar, the judiciary and the public interest world, including retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Cortell has successfully argued numerous cases on behalf of some of Texas’ largest corporations. Her record includes recent significant victories in state and federal appellate and trial courts. In the Texas Supreme Court’s 2016-2017 term, she secured two wins for ExxonMobil Corp. in cases involving the Texas anti-SLAPP statute and agency law. And in the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, she recently represented Trinity Industries in a landmark reversal of a $636 million False Claims Act judgment and Texas Capital Bank in defeating multimillion-dollar lender liability claims.

The Dallas Bar Foundation has this year given Cortell the Fellows Justinian Award, which recognizes lawyers who excel in the practice of law and have shown a demonstrated commitment to volunteering and professional service. In 2017, The Texas Lawbook named Cortell among the "Lions of the Texas Bar." And the Texas Bar Foundation presented her with the 2016 Greg Coleman Outstanding Appellate Lawyer Award. She co-founded the Center for Women in Law at the University of Texas School of Law and received the school’s 2012 Distinguished Alumnus Award for Community Service. She also was recognized with the 2013 Jack Pope Professionalism Award from the Texas Center for Legal Ethics.
