The Patent Trial and Appeal Board has doled out wins to Ericsson Inc. and RPX Corp. in a dispute over two network bandwidth patents held by Texas-based software company Iridescent Networks Inc., ruling that all the challenged claims in both patents are invalid.

In three separate decisions handed down Monday, the board canceled all of the disputed claims in Iridescent’s patents — which provide a method of assuring high-quality service connections across modern cellular networks — finding they would’ve been obvious to a person of ordinary skill in the art with the help of a handful of online resources.

Although Iridescent centered its arguments on the availability and validity of one of the resources used by RPX and Ericsson to make their case, the panel said it arrived at its decisions through analysis of all the resources together. …
