Winter 2025 Shipping and Energy Newsletter

December 11, 2025

Welcome to the Winter 2025 Shipping and Energy Newsletter.

Our final newsletter of the year is bursting with content covering the latest developments in the energy and shipping sectors, as well as updates on dispute resolution and much more.

Highlights from shipping include our Law of Shipbuilding Contracts 2025 Update, a look at the post-delivery liability of shipyards and a review of a recent decision on “loss of bargain” damages in ship sale and purchase transactions.

For energy, we have articles covering the regulatory framework for decommissioning in the UK, risks and liabilities in small modular reactor construction and the evolving hydrogen sector.

A fantastic animation produced by Conrad Purcell and Kayley Rousell provides a helpful introduction to the use of project finance in major infrastructure projects.

This issue also features articles on topics including mediation, contract formation, irremediable breaches and contract termination, as well as the use of artificial intelligence by arbitrators.

We also welcome Tautvydas Medziukevicius to the dispute resolution team. Tautvydas trained with the firm and qualified this month.

As this is the final newsletter of 2025, we take this opportunity to wish you a very prosperous 2026 from the Shipping and Energy team at Haynes Boone in London. We are also looking forward to sharing our 2025 Year in Review with you in the new year.
