October 16, 2025

Haynes Boone London Office Co-Managing Partner Nick Davis was named The Times’ Lawyer of the Week for the week of Oct. 10. 2025. He earned the honor following Haynes Boone’s work on Fermi’s historic $13.8 billion dual-listed IPO on the London Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq.

He spoke about decisions he has made as an attorney, the best advice he has received, who he admires most and more in a Q&A with the publication.

Read an excerpt below.

What is the best decision you have taken as a lawyer?

Exploring the idea of listing mining companies on London’s Alternative Investment Market in 2000-01 — something largely unheard of at the time. Twenty-five years on I’ve listed numerous resource companies in London — all because of a flight to Canada with my mentor Lesley Gregory, to explore the potential first hand.

Whom do you most admire in the law?

Nelson Mandela became a global symbol of justice by risking his life in the fight for human rights and equality in South Africa. His legal expertise shaped his activism and helped to lay the foundation for a democratic future.

What is the best advice you have received?

Understand the people you are dealing with. Legal expertise is vital, but often understanding people’s psychology unlocks problems and leads to solutions — especially when challenges arise in a deal.
