Haynes and Boone Featured in 2020 Edition of Chambers Latin America

August 26, 2019

Haynes Boone and lawyers in its Mexican affiliate, Haynes Boone, SC, have been featured in the 2020 edition of the Chambers Latin America legal directory, published by Chambers and Partners.

Chambers ranks lawyers and practices based on thousands of interviews with leading practitioners and clients. Ranking criteria include technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence, commitment and other qualities most valued by legal clients.

The directory recognized the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources practice as a leader in Mexico, and Haynes Boone’s Corporate/M&A practice was ranked in the Latin America-wide category.

The 2020 legal directory includes the following observations about the firm’s practices:

  • Corporate/M&A: Chambers called the firm’s corporate practice “skilled at handling Latin American mandates,” with particular depth “in the Mexican market as a result of its local office representing a broad range of corporate clients in inbound M&A transactions.” Clients highlight the group’s excellent "communication and rapport.”
  • The Energy & Natural Resources practice group “is adept at handling oil and gas mandates, bolstered by the firm's notable presence in Texas for oil and gas mandates,” Chambers commented, adding that the team is “experienced [at] advising oil companies on joint ventures, purchase and sale agreements and public bids.”

Chambers recognized the following lawyers: in Mexico, Nicolás Borda in Energy & Natural Resources and Edgar Klee in Tax. Larry Pascal was recognized Latin America-wide in Corporate/M&A.

The directory said the following about the recognized lawyers:

Larry Pascal, Chambers said, is “praised by observers for his ‘excellent knowledge base and practical approach to dealing with legal issues.’ He is experienced in Latin American corporate matters, having recently advised on joint venture agreements, M&A and other corporate matters in Colombia and Mexico.”

Chambers notes that Nicolás Borda, ranked Band 1, “offers long-standing experience in the Mexican energy and natural resources sphere.”

Edgar Klee is praised by clients who say “he really understands the international market and how the tax issues impact Mexican companies. He also really wants to understand the client and get to know them; this is the added value."
