Haynes Boone Featured in Chambers UK 2022 Rankings

Haynes and Boone’s London office was prominently ranked in the 2022 edition of the Chambers UK legal directory published by Chambers and Partners. Chambers UK ranked two practice areas and recognized six lawyers: Partners William Cecil, Emma Russell, Andreas Silcher, Melanie Willems, Senior Counsel Simon Curtis, and Associate Emily Fuller.

Banking & Finance: Lenders: Lower Mid-Market

Haynes Boone’s Banking & Finance: Lenders: Lower Mid-Market Practice was ranked Band 2 (London.) Chambers UK called the team a “well-regarded London player noted for its representation of lender-side clients such as banks and funds” and added: “advises across the full spectrum of financings, with noteworthy strength in fund finance and structured finance transactions. . . .Adept at cross-border financings, with notable experience in matters concerning the USA and Europe.”

Clients described the team as "very user-friendly, very responsive and very commercially minded" and noted that “Haynes and Boone is a market leader in the fund finance industry."

Emma Russell, head of the Finance Practice Group in London, was ranked Band 2 in Banking & Finance: Fund Finance (London). Chambers UK quoted clients who praised her as “excellent at building the relationships between lenders and borrowers” and as “very knowledgeable . . .very personable, very commercial and decisive in her management.”

Chambers UK also recognized Emily Fuller as an “associate to watch” in Banking & Finance: Fund Finance (London). Market sources complimented her for being “extremely helpful,” “extremely technically able,” “very engaged,” and a source of advice that “is very sensible and fully explained."

Shipping

Chambers UK ranked the London office in Shipping (UK-wide) for its experience in the shipbuilding and offshore energy sectors, including “offering formidable expertise in contentious matters” and “routinely [advising] clients on a range of transactional agreements.” Clients raved that lawyers in the group “understand the circumstances unique to our business and industry”; offer “practical and straight-to-the-point advice”; and “bring a lot of value to our company."

William Cecil, Andreas Silcher, and Simon Curtis were ranked by Chambers UK in Shipping (UK-wide). The managing partner of the London office, William was praised as “extremely capable [and] able to drill down to the crux of an issue and advise in a useful manner,” and as being “very knowledgeable, both in his field and in his technical understanding of our business."

Clients, likewise, commended Andreas: he “gives precise advice and provides very good service” and “is responsive and knowledgeable in his field of expertise."

Simon was recognized by Chambers UK as “a renowned practitioner in the shipbuilding sphere.” A market source offered: “Simon wrote the book on ship finance. He has a very good reputation."

International Arbitration

Melanie Willems, chair of the International Arbitration Practice Group in Haynes Boone’s London office, was ranked among the leading lawyers in International Arbitration (UK-wide) by Chambers UK, which stated that she “has significant experience in handling commercial arbitrations [and] is particularly adept at tackling complex claims for clients in the energy and hospitality sector.”
