Haynes Boone Named 2025 Law360 Texas Powerhouse

September 03, 2025

In its 55th year serving clients in Texas and beyond, Haynes Boone has once again been recognized as a Texas Regional Powerhouse by Law360, honoring the firm’s sustained excellence and influential presence in the Lone Star State.

Firm Managing Partner Taylor Wilson and General Counsel Ben Mesches spoke with Law360 about the firm’s excellent performance in 2024, which has continued through 2025.

“We had record-high revenues as a firm, and we also passed the $1 million mark for revenues per lawyer," Wilson said. "So, from an economic standpoint, it was certainly a good year, but we had a lot of other highlights, as well."

Wilson said the business-friendly environment of the Lone Star State, coupled with its strong economy and new business court, have resulted in a steady flow of corporate relocations and a thriving financial market, "all of which have benefited our clients and our firm."

Haynes Boone established a task force to address the recent additions of the Texas Business Court and the Fifteenth Court of Appeals.

"We were already getting calls from clients about how this was going to work, asking if this was a court system they could have confidence in," Mesches said. "We assembled a cross-disciplinary group for the task force. We want our clients to know we're ahead of the curve, and we want to … identify potential trends that could affect the litigation practice next year and also three and five years down the road."

In March, the firm launched a Texas corporate governance practice group to help businesses navigate the challenges of moving to or incorporating in the state. The firm is serving as counsel to the new Texas Stock Exchange, and Wilson said Haynes Boone is uniquely positioned to deliver top-notch legal services as the business environment in Texas gains momentum.

"The combination of our deep Texas roots, our national presence and our international reach are why clients who are looking at moving to the state are calling on our firm," Wilson said.

Mesches said Haynes Boone has made a "significant investment in our trial capabilities," which includes the return last year of Victor Vital, who heads the firm's trial practice, … and launching a trial academy in May.

Mesches said … [the academy] caught the attention of clients who recognize the firm's emphasis on having a "deep bench of lawyers who can go to trial anywhere … across the country."

Mesches noted the addition of Michael Qian to Haynes Boone's appellate group. Qian was counselor to Merrick Garland … and clerked for Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Ketanji Brown Jackson.

"We're very well balanced on the litigation side," Mesches said. "We've got strength in energy, a tremendous First Amendment media team, tremendous business, white collar, and labor and employment litigators, and a first-in-class appellate team."

"Our practice mix … has been important to our success, and we stand ready to serve our clients regardless of where the markets are going," Wilson said. "The founders of our firm agreed that our core values would center around teamwork and a client-first focus, and that has served us well."
