Helen Formoso-Murias: Back for Round Two

June 29, 2023

We recently spoke with Helen Formoso-Murias, a second-year summer associate in our Charlotte, NC office, about her time with the firm last year and what drew her back for a second round.

Q: What was your favorite part about last year’s summer associate program?

A: The team in the Charlotte office is exceptional. I received substantive work, training, and felt immediately welcomed. The networking opportunities within the firm are also excellent. Some highlights from last summer include a trip to the New York office, attending the Next Gen Inclusion Network event, and visiting the headquarters in Dallas for the firm’s annual summer associate presentation. Raquel Alvarenga, Vera Suarez, and Sharon Jones are among the attorneys and leaders I met in Dallas whose experiences at the firm affirmed my decision to return for a second summer. The open and inclusive culture at Haynes Boone makes it easy to feel integrated.

Q: Who was a good mentor to you at Haynes Boone, and why were they a good mentor?

A: Holly Loftis, one of the Charlotte Finance Partners, has been a phenomenal mentor. Holly brought me to a client pitch and invited me to a Women in Fund Finance panel she was moderating. She introduced me to the world of Fund Finance and really made me feel part of the team.

Q: What are you looking forward to in this coming year’s program?

A: I look forward to building on the foundation set last summer and another year of legal studies to take on more work and learn as much as possible.

Q: What are you hoping to do after law school?

A: After law school, I hope to return to the firm as an associate at Haynes Boone's growing Charlotte office and contribute to the firm's continued success.
