Haynes Boone Associate Re’Necia Sherald has been selected as a recipient of the Rising Star Award by the Business Bankruptcy Committee, part of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section. This award recognizes the top 20 bankruptcy lawyers across the United States who have demonstrated a commitment to business bankruptcy, community involvement, leadership and professionalism. Sherald and the other award recipients will be recognized at the ABA Business Law Section’s spring meeting in April 2026.
“This recognition means so much to me, and I’m thankful for my incredible mentors and Haynes Boone colleagues who have supported me and helped shape my journey,” said Sherald. “I look forward to continue making a positive impact within the restructuring community and beyond.”
Sherald is in the Restructuring Practice Group in Haynes Boone’s Houston office. Her practice focuses on all areas of restructuring, including in- and out-of- court workouts, bankruptcy litigation, counterparty insolvency and risk management, distressed M&A, lender representation, creditor representation and Chapter 11 debtor representation. Sherald’s restructuring experience includes representation of debtors and creditors in a variety of industries including aerospace, agriculture, cryptocurrency, oil and gas, mass toxic tort and retail.
This award follows Sherald’s work alongside Charles A. Beckham Jr., Kelli Norfleet and David Trausch, who collectively received the 2025 Lee Cusenbary Impact Award that is given annually by the San Antonio Legal Services Association (SALSA). The award recognized nine Haynes Boone lawyers who together donated nearly 1,100 hours toward the case of a minor in the bankruptcy of his imprisoned father. The team advocated tirelessly for financial support for the child throughout the bankruptcy process and reached an agreement with the bankruptcy trustee to provide for the child’s needs.
Sherald was previously named to the Top 40 Under 40 by the National Black Lawyers in late 2024, an honor recognizing the top Black attorneys who demonstrate exceptional legal expertise, community service and leadership.
