Giorgio Bovenzi has joined Haynes and Boone, LLP as a partner in the Finance Practice Group in New York, bringing decades of experience advising clients on global credit risk management and cross-border insolvency issues.
A native of Italy and veteran of leading Wall Street law firms, Bovenzi has deep knowledge of the commercial and insolvency laws in many countries worldwide and focuses on providing global credit risk advice by reconciling the differences in credit, bank regulatory, and insolvency rules among civil-law and common-law jurisdictions. Some of the world’s largest global banks routinely retain Bovenzi to help them assess credit and insolvency risk on cross-border transactions.
“My global credit practice identifies client risk in transactions (with a specific focus on qualified financial contracts) that are connected to two or more jurisdictions and are subject to the overlapping authority of different commercial and insolvency laws,” he said. “I am thrilled to join Haynes and Boone because it has built deep relationships with leading banks that I already assist. Bovenzi comes to Haynes and Boone from Dentons, where he was a partner in the firm’s Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy practice. He also co-chaired Denton’s Financial Institutions Sector and the Innovation & Technology Working Group. After practicing commercial litigation in Italy for six years, he began his U.S. career at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP more than 20 years ago, where his bankruptcy litigation experience was highly formative. He later worked for about a decade at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, where he helped develop the firm’s global credit risk management expertise into a practice. Bovenzi has also represented global financial institutions, multi-national debtors, and investors in multi-jurisdictional insolvency, out-of-court restructuring, and distressed-asset acquisition matters in which his global credit risk experience proved instrumental.
