Tom Chen Named to Lawyers of Color 'Nation's Best' List

Tom Chen, a patent lawyer and partner at Haynes and Boone, LLP, has been named to the Lawyers of Color’s inaugural “Nation’s Best” list. The list recognizes 100 firm partners and senior-level corporate counsel for noteworthy accomplishments and their commitment to diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

Aside from being a skilled and insightful intellectual property lawyer and member of the firm’s Board of Directors, Tom is co-chair of Haynes and Boone's Attorney Diversity and Inclusion Committee, which focuses on advancing the hiring, retention and promotion of diverse lawyers within the firm. He is also a member of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, along with the Asian Law Alliance Advisory Board.

“Tom is an advocate for the importance and necessity of a diverse law firm and truly strives to make Haynes and Boone a leader in diversity,” said Jennifer Reddien, the firm’s director of Diversity and Inclusion.

Under Tom’s lead, the firm handles patent matters for start-ups to Fortune 100 companies. He is listed in Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners, Globe White Page Ltd., 2018-2019. He was recognized in Managing Intellectual Property Magazine, Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC, as an IP Star in 2019. Based in Orange County, Calif., he also has been named one of the Top 100 Lawyers in California by the Daily Journal (2016).

Lawyers of Color is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization devoted to promoting diversity in the legal profession and advancing democracy and equality in marginalized communities. The organization produces events, conferences, and publications, including Power Issue, Caucus Issue, Hot List, and Legal Diversity Issue.
