Asian American Partners Philip Kim, Sakina Foster and Albert Tan Featured in Dallas Bar Association's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Webinar

On March 24, Partners Phillip Kim, Sakina Rasheed Foster and Albert Tan participated in the Dallas Bar Association’s webinar titled “Why it Matters: Innovations in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (Part 2).”

Kim served as the moderator for the panel, which, in addition to Foster and Tan, included the following participants:

  • Ricardo Bonilla, Principal at Fish & Richardson
  • Jill Louis, Dallas Office Managing Partner at Perkins Coie
  • Stacey Maris, Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel and Secretary at AT&T
  • Vicki D. Blanton, Chair of the Dallas Bar Association Board and Chair of the Diversity Survey Report Committee for the Dallas Allied Bars for Equality; and AVP – Senior Legal Counsel, Tax & Benefits at AT&T

Panelists discussed various topics including strategies to improve the retention of diverse attorneys and how minority lawyers can blaze trails in the legal profession. They also discussed the results of the 2020 Firm Diversity Survey Report, which presents the latest trends in diversity and inclusion at the largest firms in Dallas County.

Kim’s practice is focused on the representation of various types of providers, ranging from healthcare systems, hospitals, companies in the digital health, biotechnology and medical device space, ambulatory surgery centers, physician groups, home health providers, and other healthcare companies on the buy- and sell-side of mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and operational matters, which include regulatory, licensure, contractual, and administrative issues.

Foster’s practice is focused on the representation of borrowers and financial institutions in complex commercial loan transactions as well as airlines and aviation matters. Sakina has experience in advising banks, private equity firms, corporations and individuals in connection with senior and subordinated financing, including for acquisition financings, syndicated and single bank loan facilities, asset-based lending, mortgage warehouse lending and loans secured by unique collateral, such as mortgage servicing rights.

Tan serves on Haynes and Boone’s six-person Appointments Committee, which oversees all the firm’s strategic leadership and management roles, Board of Directors, Partners Compensation Committee, and Strategic Growth Committee. He regularly represents investment and commercial banks in connection with fund financings for private equity funds in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America, and frequently speaks on fund finance at legal and business seminars, hosted by, among others, Private Equity International, PERE, Privcap and Institutional Real Estate, Inc.
