Haynes and Boone Names 2019 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow and Pathfinder

April 03, 2019

Haynes and Boone has announced its selections for the 2019 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Class of Fellows and Pathfinders. Houston Partner Sameer Saxena has been named a Fellow, and Dallas Associate Phil Kim was selected for the Pathfinder Program.

Saxena and Kim will participate in LCLD programs designed to prepare diverse young lawyers for leadership roles in the profession.

Saxena, a partner in the firm’s Capital Markets and Securities, Mergers and Acquisitions and Energy Practice Groups, is in the 2019 class of LCLD Fellows. The fellows take part in a yearlong, in-depth program devoted to relationship-building, in-person training, peer-group projects and other activities to develop their legal and leadership skills.

Kim, an associate in the firm’s Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice Group, is in the 2019 class of the LCLD Pathfinder Program, which trains lawyers in critical career-development strategies, including leadership and professional network-building.

“Haynes and Boone is thrilled to support the LCLD programs and their participants,” said Director of Diversity and Inclusion Jennifer Reddien. “Sameer and Phil are fantastic lawyers and future leaders of the firm, who will gain valuable skills in these programs. We are also proud they are carrying on a tradition of diversity leadership at Haynes and Boone.”

Since LCLD was founded 10 years ago, it has grown to include more than 300 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners who are committed to creating a more diverse and inclusive legal profession. This includes Haynes and Boone Managing Partner Tim Powers, who joined LCLD in 2012.

The Fellows Program has trained more than 1,600 mid-career lawyers since 2011. Haynes and Boone alumni of the program include Counsel Chris Kang, Counsel Jade O. Laye, Partner Javier Martinez, and Partner Madelyn Calabrese.

The Pathfinder Program was piloted in 2015 and is in its fourth full year. Haynes and Boone Associates Mini Kapoor, Matthew Costello, Maudess Fulton and Michael Gaston-Bell have participated in the program. The firm also has hosted several scholars through the 1L LCLD Scholars Program, including Associates Chris Albert, Neil Issar and Omar Shariff, and Erica Santamaria – all of whom were named scholars in law school.
