Haynes Boone and 16 of its partners from California, Colorado, Illinois, Texas and Washington, D.C., were recognized in the 2023 edition of the Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) Patent 1000 legal directory.
The publication listed Haynes Boone among the top firms in the nation in various practice categories and among the leading firms in California, Illinois, and Texas.

The IAM Patent 1000 shines a spotlight on firms and individuals deemed outstanding in the patent practice. IAM interviewed more than 1,800 patent lawyers and in-house counsel over a five-month period to determine which firms and lawyers to include in the directory.

National:
The firm ranked nationally in both prosecution and post-grant proceedings.
Texas:
In Texas, Haynes Boone ranked among the top 15 firms in Litigation; as “Highly Recommended” in prosecution – one of only four firms in the state to receive this ranking; and as one of eight “Recommended” firms for transactions work. Individual rankings include:

The attorneys are effective at drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and their overall work product is high quality and delivered on time.”
IAM applauded Tom Chen, saying he “earns effusive praise for being ‘thoughtful, reliable and responsive, and providing strategic advice that takes account of the changing needs of the business. Tom is admired for his professionalism, ability to work to a tight deadline, and willingness to help in any situation. He manages his team effectively and takes feedback into consideration.”
Greg Michelson “adroitly manages large portfolios and knows how to prosecute applications to successful grant, with minimum fuss. His background in electrical and technical engineering informs his advice and ensures each aspect of the technology is duly protected.”
Lastly, IAM called out Ken Parker, who “recently represented Panasonic Holdings in its patent infringement suit against Getac Technology, in which the jury found that Getac infringed three of the four asserted patents and awarded $17.5 million in damages.”
Illinois:
The firm is ranked in litigation in Illinois, and Eugene Goryunov and Ralph Gabric are individually ranked.
Researchers stated: “Although primarily known for its patent offering in Texas, Haynes Boone is building an impressive reputation in Illinois, thanks to its robust litigation team. It is one of the most active firms in administrative proceedings before the PTAB, much of which is down to Eugene Goryunov. He is an expert in IPRs and post-grant reviews and is comfortable handling matters relating to complex fields, from consumer goods to high technology. Also recommended is Ralph Gabric. He is a business-focused lawyer with more than 30 years of litigation experience. Gabric has taken many cases all the way through to trial in district courts throughout the United States.”
Colorado:
Lee Johnston was ranked individually in litigation.
D.C. Metro Area:
Jeff Wolfson and Vince Shier were recommended in prosecution.
