Haynes and Boone Deals Honored with 2020 Middle-Market M&A Atlas Awards

The Global M&A Network last week recognized two transactions handled by Haynes and Boone, LLP as middle-market “deals of the year.” The 2020 winners were honored at the annual U.S.A M&A Atlas Awards Gala March 5 in Washington, D.C.

“We are delighted to honor leading firms, dealmakers and deals during these uncertain times, …” Shanta Kumari, CEO of the Global M&A Network, stated in a release. “The winners exemplify vision, tenacity and excellence for executing transactions from the vibrant middle market industries.”

The network selected the following transaction as Large Middle-Market M&A Deal of the Year in the $500 million to $1 billion category:

Landry’s Acquisition of Del Frisco’s Steakhouse Brands

Partners Jennifer Wisinski, Paul Amiel and Sameer Saxena and a team of lawyers represented Landry’s and its owner Tilman J. Fertitta, in the acquisition by Landry's of the Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouses and the Del Frisco's Grilles business from L Catterton, the largest and most global consumer-focused private equity firm, for an undisclosed price.

The deal team, led by Wisinski, Amiel and Saxena, included Haynes and Boone Partner Simin Sun and Associates Brent Beckert, Courtney Chouinard, Rachael Apfel, Brett Moore, Camie Carlock. Partner Susan Wetzel and Associate Scott Thompson handled employee benefits and executive compensation matters and Partner Sam Lichtman handled tax aspects of the deal. Partner Monika Sanford and Associates Mitchell Heyland, Laura Shapiro and CJ Donald advised the client on financing the transaction.

The network selected the following transaction as the Sub-Sectors Energy & Services M&A Deal of the Year:

Callon Petroleum Company’s Divestiture to Sequitur Permian

Haynes and Boone advised Callon Petroleum Company in connection with its divestiture of non-core Midland Basin oil and gas assets to Sequitur Permian LLC for $245 million with potential additional consideration of $60 million.

The Haynes and Boone team was led by Houston Partners Kraig Grahmann and Jesse Gelsomini and included Houston Associate Matt Rountree; Partner Ken Bezozo and Associate Don Shiman in the New York office; and Austin Partner Mary Mendoza.
