Energy, Power and Natural Resources

Energy drives all other industries; its fundamental importance requires skilled lawyers powered by experience.

Our Energy Practice Group lawyers handle high-stakes transactions and litigation, as well as financings and regulatory advice, for a diverse array of clients in the United States and overseas. We serve independent U.S. oil and gas producers such as Enervest, Callon Petroleum, major international oil companies such as BP America and PEMEX, global commodity traders such as BNP Paribas, and domestic power companies such as Southwest Power Pool, Constellation Energy and Crius Energy, as well as large commercial lenders and private equity firms that are leaders in providing capital to the industry.

Our clients call us for their most critical matters requiring sophisticated and practical advice. As Chambers USA notes, “They understand the commercial realities of the industry.” With offices in some of the major energy capitals of the world, we know the markets, the players and the industry.

Our clients cover all facets of the energy industry, including:

  • Oil and gas, including upstream, midstream and downstream
  • LNG, including transportation, liquefaction and regasification
  • Electric power, including generation, transmission, marketing, sales, hedging and tolling agreements, as well as compliance with state commission, FERC, ISO and RTOs requirements
  • Alternative and renewable energy, including solar and wind

Our deep knowledge of the energy marketplace both in the United States and abroad fuels the creative and efficient solutions our clients have come to expect from us. Many of our lawyers, professional landmen and senior energy market analysts have worked their entire careers in the industry in a variety of roles, including as oil and gas law professors, in-house and general counsel, petroleum engineers, geophysicists and energy bankers.

Clients benefit from our distinctive approach to handling transactions and providing regulatory guidance. Our litigators also handle disputes and arbitrations specific to the energy industry, in both state and federal courts and before a number of international bodies.

Access to capital is often a primary concern of our energy clients. We represent many of the major commercial senior and mezzanine energy lenders, private debt and capital providers, and we work closely with investment bankers accessing capital in the public markets for our energy clients. Given the volatility of the energy industry in the past few decades, we’ve also helped clients on many high-profile debt restructures and insolvencies on both the debtor and creditor sides.
